COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., July 15, 2017 – Marvin Kimble of Milwaukee, Wis./Salto, and Dylan Young of Burbank, Calif./Gymnastics Olympica, won the senior and junior all-around titles, respectively, at the 2017 Men’s National Qualifier. The Qualifier, held in Colorado Springs at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, was the final men’s qualifying event for the 2017 P&G Gymnastics Championships in Anaheim, Calif., Aug. 17-20.
Kimble topped the senior all-around standings with his 83.550 total. Shane Wiskus of Spring Park, Minn./University of Minnesota, finished second at 82.200, followed by Cameron Bock of Newport Beach, Calif./U.S. Olympic Training Center, in third (81.700). Gymnasts use this event either to quaify for championships or as a tune-up for August.
Scores for the top three in the senior all-around rankings are listed below.
- Kimble: 83.550, all-around; 13.700, floor exercise; 12.600, pommel horse; 14.500, still rings; 14.750, vault; 14.200, parallel bars; 13.800, top horizontal bar score.
- Wiskus: 82.200, all-around; 13.950, floor exercise; 13.250, pommel horse; 13.950, still rings; 14.100, vault; 13.800, parallel bars; 13.150, horizontal bar.
- Bock: 81.700, all-around; 14.250, floor exercise; 14.150, pommel horse; 14.150, still rings; 14.250 vault; 13.300, parallel bars; 11.600, horizontal bar.
The senior individual events titlists are: Eddie Penev of Penfield, N.Y./U.S. Olympic Training Center, 15.050, floor exercise; Brandon Ngai of Sacramento, Calif./University of Illinois, 14.600, pommel horse; Trevor Howard of Columbus, Ohio/Ohio State University, 14.600, still rings; Matthew Wenske of Houston/University of Oklahoma, 15.050, vault; Jordan Valdez of Louisville, Colo./University of Illinois, 14.350, parallel bars; and Kimble, 13.800, horizontal bar.
Dylan Young of Burbank, Calif./Gymnastics Olympica, topped the combined junior all-around standings at 127.450, followed by David Willett of High Point, N.C./High Point, at 124.600. Spencer Goodell of Tigard, Ore./OMEGA, finished third (124.100).
Eighteen senior athletes qualified to the 2017 P&G Championships based on the results of the National Qualification Points System. The top seven junior elite gymnasts also qualified to the P&G Championships based on the two-day, all-around rankings (optional + technical sequence score).
