Acrobatics & Tumbling Athletes of the Week – March 22-28, 2021

Athlete of the Week
Hannah Alonzo - Azusa Pacific
Hannah Alonzo, a junior base from San Antonio, Texas is the NCATA Athlete of the Week after leading Azusa Pacific to a season-opening win over then-No. 2-ranked Oregon last week. Alonzo competed in 10 heats for the Cougars last week, helping APU score a 9.90 in the acro five-element, inversion pyramid and 450 salto toss. Alonzo also helped the Cougars to a 9.85 in the acro seven-element and a trio of 9.80 scores in the compulsory toss, open pyramid and synchronized toss. In all, APU scored a 9.80 or better in seven of the 10 heats that Alonzo competed in during the victory. She was also a key piece to APU’s team event performance that scored a 100.22.

Specialist of the Week
Addie Lacewell - Oregon
Addie Lacewell, a senior from Naperville, Ill., was named the Specialist of the Week after helping Oregon to a trio of high scores during the Ducks’ meet against Azusa Pacific. Lacewell helped Oregon to a perfect 10.0 in the synchronize pyramid, a 9.90 in the inversion pyramid and a 9.85 in the open pyramid. Lacewell competes as a mid-base and a tosser during the pyramid event for UO.

Freshman of the Week
Riley Chimwala - Baylor
Riley Chimwala, a base from Plano, Texas, was named the NCATA Freshman of the Week after a standout performance in Baylor’s win over Hawaii Pacific. As a freshman, Chimwala competes in nine different heats for the Bears. Her week was highlighted by a 9.90 in the acro seven-element and a 9.85 in the inversion pyramid. She also helped Baylor to a pair of 9.80 scores in the compulsory toss and acro five-element. In addition, during team event Chimwala is a base in an acro sequence, a mid-level in a pyramid segment, and is a side base during two tosses.

Mountain East Conference

Athlete of the Week
Alexis Smith - Fairmont State
Smith, a senior top, base and tumbler from Parkersburg, W.Va., competed in 10 heats and team event to help lead the Falcons to a huge conference victory over West Liberty last week. Against the ‘Toppers, Smith helped the Falcons score of 9.60 in the inversion pyramid and a 9.55 in the compulsory pyramid. She was also critical to Fairmont State’s tumbling event, helping the Falcons score an 8.85 (out of 9.40) in the duo pass, and a 9.45 (out of 9.95) in the open pass. Smith has competed as a top, base and a tumbler for the Falcons this season.

Conference Carolinas

Athlete of the Week
Lindsay Bowles - King
A junior from Advance, North Carolina, Bowles competed in 10 heats in King’s road conference win at No. 6 Converse. The road win allowed King to win the inaugural Conference Carolinas regular season championship. Bowles first helped King set a program record compulsory event score of 37.70. She was a member of three compulsory heats, including a school-record pyramid heat score of 9.90. Bowles later competed in two acro heats, two pyramid heats and two toss heats. The Tornado scored 8.75 out of 9.00 in toss heat three. In the team event, King posted their third-highest score in program history, 94.94, to complete the come-from-behind win as the Tornado trailed nearly the entire meet until the team event.
